JEFFERSON (WGME) — Firefighters spent hours at the scene of fire Saturday morning at N.C. Lumber in Jefferson.

Jefferson Fire and Rescue says it responded to the call shortly before midnight for a fire at N.C. Lumber.

N.C. Lumber is a lumber mill on South Clary Road in Jefferson.

Fire Captain Christopher Rigaud says the central mill complex was completely engulfed in flames when he arrived on scene.

” All four sides had flames showing so lots of mutual aid responded and all our company responded,” said Rigaud, “We were able to contain it to that central mill complex.”

One person was treated for minor injuries.

Rigaud says it’s one of the largest fires he’s seen in Jefferson in the last ten years.

“It was certainly a large fire for Jefferson. I would say probably the largest in a decade and more. It’s an industrial facility of which we don’t very many so it’s kind of unique,” said Rigaud.

On its Facebook page Saturday morning, Jefferson Fire & Rescue posted, “Thank you to our surrounding fire and rescue departments for the mutual aid supplied for this overnight fire. And thank you to Lincoln County dispatchers and deputies from the sheriff’s office.”
