A former Tennessee truck driver who crashed and killed two Mainers while intoxicated in 2016 is appealing his conviction.

Randall Weddle was driving a tractor-trailer loaded with lumber when he crashed into oncoming traffic on Route 17 near Washington, in Knox County.

According to CBS 13, police say Weddle was drunk, on pain medication and speeding before striking two vehicles.

The crash claimed the lives of 45-year-old Christina Torres-York of Warren and 74-year-old Paul Fowles of Owls Head.

Weddle was sentenced to 30 years behind bars with all but 25 yesterday suspended, followed by four years of probation.

He’s appealing his conviction, arguing the sentence is disproportionate to sentences imposed in similar cases.

A hearing for the appeal was scheduled for Wednesday.
