An outpatient facility in Gardiner was the target of a threatening message Wednesday.

Police say a man contacted MaineGeneral Gardiner Wednesday morning and left a voicemail expressing frustration. Staff were concerned with the comments and contacted law enforcement before closing the facility out of an abundance of caution.

Shortly afterwards, the man who made the call checked himself in to a local hospital for evaluation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and no other details have been released.

Schools in the area were also placed into a soft lockdown, which was lifted later in the day.
