A trailer carrying goats detached on the Maine turnpike which caused 15 goats to escape and run through traffic, according to state police.

Saturday afternoon at around 12:40 p.m. police said that a trailer full of goats detached from a vehicle near mile marker 52.

CBS 13 reports that the trailer reportedly stopped in the median and the goats slowed traffic on both northbound and southbound lanes.

Police say that they rounded up the goats safely and that the driver was safe as well.

Police say northbound traffic was disrupted for around 45 minutes. They thank Southern Maine Towing, the Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency, the town of Cumberland, the Cumberland Police Department Animal Control, and the Maine Turnpike Authority for their help.
