PORTLAND, Maine (AP) The Maine Republican Party is asking the state supreme court to put on hold its ruling that allowed ranked choice voting in the presidential contest.

The filing on Thursday represents a last-ditch effort to delay the use of ranked voting in the presidential contest until state voters can have the final say through a “People’s Veto” referendum.

The Maine GOP wants the state supreme court to issue a stay to give it time to take the matter to the U.S. Supreme court if necessary.

The state already has begun printing ranked presidential ballots.
