PORTLAND (AP) The Maine Republican Party is going to try to stop a law that requires ranked voting in presidential races through a statewide “people’s veto” referendum.

The Maine GOP said Tuesday that a delay in implementation of the law until after the Legislature adjourns presents a window for volunteers to try to collect signatures to force a statewide vote. About 63,000 signatures would have to be certified to force a statewide vote in November.

Ranked-choice voting lets voters rank candidates on the ballot and uses multiple voting rounds to ensure majority support for the ultimate winner.
