PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine’s governor Janet Mills said Monday she believes President Donald Trump’s executive orders meant to address the coronavirus pandemic are about “partisan gamesmanship” rather than relief.

Mills criticized the order as too vague, and said it appears to “subordinate real relief for unemployed Americans to partisan gamesmanship, making families a pawn in a cruel political game.”

Trump, a Republican, announced an executive order on Saturday that is intended to extend unemployment payments of up to $400 a week due to the impact of the pandemic on unemployment and economic security.

Mills said Americans need a comprehensive relief package provided by Congress. Maine labor commissioner Laura Fortman said her agency is seeking more information from the federal government about Trump’s orders.
