Governor Janet Mills’ administration is accelerating the reopening of lodging establishment for out-of-state visitors.

The governor on Friday said that date has been moved from Wednesday, July 1st to Friday June 26th.

Out-of-state visitors will still need to either meet the 14-day quarantine requirement or the state’s new testing alternative, which requires them to provide proof that they’ve tested negative for Covid-19.

The Governor’s administration says accelerating the timeline will allow lodging establishments to serve visitors during a key weekend leading up to the July 4th holiday.

Residents of New Hampshire and Vermont are exempt from the quarantine or testing requirement, and were allowed to begin visiting lodging establishments in Maine beginning Friday, June 12th.
