Augusta (WGAN)– In a press release Tuesday aftermoon, Governor Mills issues the Declaration of Abnormal Market Disruption in response to concerns about the potential for price gouging as Maine responds to COVID-19. The declaration prohibits certain necessities from being sold at unconscionable prices. Maine law gives the Governor the authority to issue such a declaration to prevent “profiteering in necessities.” Products included in the declaration include paper products, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer and other personal hygiene products, medicine and other medical supplies, along with food and water sold via retail and wholesale sales.

Consumers who believe they have received an attempted scam, or who have witnessed price gouging should contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Attorney General.
