Ground broken on Maine’s new tallest building

Construction on what will become Maine’s tallest building has begun.

According to our info partners at CBS 13 News, workers broke ground on the 18-story building at 201 Federal Street in Portland on Thursday.

The building will have 263 apartments. Portland Mayor Kate Snyder spoke on the benefits of the project:

“Substantial housing is such an asset to the folks that are moving here and the growth we are seeing in our economy, and it’s also great for seniors looking to downsize,” Snyder said.

The building is expected to be completed in two years and cost $64 million.
