Home in Cumberland destroyed by a fire Saturday afternoon

Cumberland (WGME) — A home in Cumberland is destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon.

Officials tell CBS 13 a passerby noticed smoke coming from a home on Tuttle Road and was able to get the one person inside, out.

The call came in at 1:30 this afternoon.

The chief says someone saw the fire and woke up one person inside who was sleeping.

The fire started in the garage and spread to the family room of the house.

The home is a total loss.

Five fire departments from surrounding towns responded to the two alarm fire which was fully involved when crews got on scene.

“The garage and the family room section of the house were fully involved. Prior to the staff getting here the fire was extending into the main house itself via the second floor and the attic space,” says Chief Daniel Small.

Thankfully no one was hurt.

The chief says the cause is unknown at this time.

The State Fire Marshall will start their investigation on Monday.
