The median price of a home in Maine is back up to  $400,000 for the fifth time since reaching that level last June.

The number of homes sold statewide is slightly down from a year ago, although sales remain strong in Cumberland County, which also has the highest median home price in the state.

Numbers for the Maine Association of Realtors show home sales and homes on the market are starting to increase as the busy summer real estate season kicks in.

“Listing activity has also picked up with 19 percent more homes on the market in
April than March—that’s nearly 600 homes,” said Maine Association of Realtors President Jeff Harris.

Northern Maine’s Aroostook County continues to have the lowest median home price and had the second largest drop in home sales from a year ago.
