PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Organizers of a protest camp of homeless people and their supporters outside City Hall in Maine’s largest city are winding the camp down.

Demonstrators calling for better services from the city have turned Portland City Hall’s steps and nearby sidewalks into a tent city for more than two weeks. One of the effort’s organizers, Jess Falero, tells the Portland Press Herald they started advising residents of the camp to transition to other places starting Thursday.

The city hasn’t put a deadline on when people have to vacate the space.

Falero tells the Press Herald the group is “putting a sort of pause on this so we can move forward intentionally.”
