Portland (WGME) – This past Saturday May 18th, the Allspeed Bike Swap in Portland offered a golden opportunity to find a new set of wheels, with an estimated 600-700 people attending the event to buy or sell used bikes.

Sellers could list their bikes in the swap and choose between receiving 100% store credit or 80% of the selling price. Allspeed on Brighton Avenue displayed a wide selection of pre-owned bikes, encompassing mountain bikes, road bikes, and even options for kids.

According to shop owner Chris Carleton, the event is a fantastic way to discover your next perfect ride. He attributes the high volume of used bikes to the pandemic, explaining, “There are a lot of used bikes out there because of COVID. We’ve seen a surge in people buying bikes, or rediscovering cycling, during that time. Now, some are looking to upgrade, while others decide, ‘Hey, I bought a bike during the pandemic, but I’m not using it anymore.’ So, we have a great selection!”

A heads-up for sellers whose bikes didn’t find a buyer: Allspeed emphasizes that unclaimed bikes must be picked up by 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, they will be generously donated to charity.
