Crisis negotiators were on the Piscataqua River Bridge Thursday morning where a New Hampshire man was experiencing a mental health crisis.
Shannon Moss with the Maine Department of Public Safety says police responded to the northbound side of the bridge around 6:30 a.m.
Negotiators spoke with the man for more than two hours. Law enforcement made the decision to shut down the bridge after they had trouble communicating with the man because of traffic noise.
The man surrendered to police around 10:30 a.m. He was taken into protective custody and brought to the hospital for evaluation. His name is not being released.
