A large Native American mural has been erased from the Skowhegan High School gymnasium.

The Portland Press Herald reports the wall inside the gym is now plain white, and a sign that reads “Home of the Indians” is no longer on the school’s campus.

Skowhegan retired its Indians mascot and nickname earlier this year. On Thursday, the school board will discuss next steps of selecting a new mascot.
