WINDHAM, Maine (AP) The state Department of Corrections says a 69-year-old inmate died at Maine Correctional Center.

The department said Arthur Gardiner of Swanville died around 11 a.m. on Sunday. WGME-TV reports Gardiner had been serving a sentence for charges associated with aggravated trafficking of drugs since 2018.

Maine State Police and the state medical examiner’s office were notified of Gardiner’s death. Those steps are consistent with state protocols.

Officials say Gardiner’s death was not related to coronavirus. They did not release a cause of death.
