The Portland Sea Dogs opened a new clubhouse on June 17, 2025. The clubhouse replaced the team’s former facility and helped the team stay in compliance with new league regulations.

Inside, the facility includes two floors of new spaces for the team. On the second floor are two batting cages, storage, a media room, an umpire room, and a grounds crew room. Downstairs hosts the locker room, coach and manager offices, a weight room, and opens directly to the expanded home bullpen.

Players and staff have “all raved about [the new clubhouse], they’re all really appreciative,” said Portland Sea Dogs President Geoff Iacuessa.

Opponents of the new facility included Maura Pillsbury, a tax analyst at the Maine Center for Economic Policy. “With so many other unmet needs in our state, Maine taxpayer dollars should not be used to subsidize a privately owned sports management company,” said Pillsbury.

The $10 million upgrade was funded by Diamond Baseball Holdings, the owner of the Portland Sea Dogs. A $2 million tax break will be given to the team by the State of Maine, spread over the next 15 years. “I’m not an economist, but in talking to some, a lot of them feel like the effect of having so much Maine labor was far and away more than… what that rebate was,” said Iacuessa.

“The Sea Dogs are proud to have a Maine-made clubhouse, with Great Falls Construction, based in Gorham, Maine, serving as the general contractor on the project. Additionally, 21 out of 26 subcontractors on the project were Maine-based,” said the team in a news release.

Fans of the team can expect some minor changes when attending games. The Sea Dogs will move into the third-base dugout for the first time in team history. A left-field grandstand was removed to increase space in the home team bullpen, reducing stadium capacity by 500.

The 2025 Portland Sea Dogs regular season will wrap up in mid-September.
