A 35-year-old man has injuries and faces charges after being shot by officers who say he threatened them with a sword in Calais.

Washington County deputies say Abinadi White was resisting arrest during a traffic stop in Calais at Main and North Streets Friday.

They say a deputy and a Calais Police officer shot White when he grabbed a sword and swung at a deputy after they tried to physically take him into custody.

White was taken to Calais Regional Hospital for treatment, and then flown to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was stabilized.

The officers were placed on administrative leave, which is normal procedure.

White faces charges for failure to stop, operating under suspension, failure to submit to arrest, and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
