AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of human remains in Augusta.

Shannon Moss with the Maine Department of Public Safety said a hunter found the skeletal remains behind Central Maine Power’s complex on Edison Drive on Saturday.

Moss says the remains were taken away to be identified, and detectives with Augusta Police are looking into whether they belong to a missing person. She said there’s no indication of foul play or anything suspicious.

Police believe the remains could have been there for more than a year.
