Jetport, Maine Airports Getting FAA Help For Improvements

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Several Maine airports are getting money from the Federal Aviation Administration to make repairs and improvements.

The airports vary in size, and include Portland International Jetport, which is getting nearly $3.9 million to reconstruct existing pavement that is no longer useful. The jetport also plans to expand an area for planes near a terminal and improve a taxiway.

The other airports and the state of Maine are getting about $3 million. Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree says the money going to the state is going to allow for a state system plan to evaluate the existing network of airports.

Other airports getting money to make improvements are in Biddeford, Brunswick, Owls Head, Sanford, Wiscasset and Waterville. The largest is a grant of more than $700,000 for Knox County Regional Airport.
