Kittery Man Surrenders After Threatening Working, Holding Police in Standoff

A 39-year-old Kittery man faces felony charges after police say he threatened workers and held officers in a standoff for more than four hours Thursday.

Police say they were sent to 161 Pepperrell Rd. at about 1:45 p.m. on a call of a man who was yelling and pointing a rifle at men who were performing work outside of a home.

They say he was standing inside the front door when they arrived and refused to come out to talk to officers, becoming very agitated and confrontational with them.

Police say they continued attempting to talk to the main, identified as Nicolas Rike, the occupant of the home.

Officers say they eventually called in the Southern Maine Special Response Team to take over operations of the incident,

They say a Response Team Crisis Negotiation Team established communications with Rike, who eventually surrendered peacefully after several hour at approximately 6:10pm.

Rike was arrested and taken to York County Jail. Police say he faces charges of Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon.

Pepperrell Road was re-opened to traffic at approximately 8:15pm.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kittery Police Department.
