The Kittery Water District is imposing what it calls “level 3” water restrictions because of declining water supply levels and continued dry conditions.
The restrictions will start next Monday, Aug. 17, and will remain in effect until further notice.
They specifically apply to lawn watering, with landscape watering is limited to two days per week only during nighttime hours.
• Odd-numbered addresses: Mondays & Thursdays
• Even-numbered addresses: Tuesdays & Fridays
• Watering hours: 8 PM–7 AM only
• No landscape watering: Saturdays or Sundays
Kittery Water District is also encouraging customers to suspend non-essential outdoor water use whenever possible.
In addition, residents are being asked to take steps to reduce overall water consumption, including repairing leaks and running dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
“Please note that failure to comply with the mandatory restrictions is subject to enforcement under the Kittery Water District Terms & Conditions,” said Kittery Town Hall in a statement.
Penalties for non compliance with the water restrictions include a $100 fine for the second violation and a $500 fine for the third violation.
