L.L. Bean laying off about 200 people, company says

L.L. Bean says it’s reorganizing certain areas of the company, and that process includes laying off about 200 employees.

Company spokeswoman Amanda Hannah says those employees will stay on the payroll through the end of February and receive a severance package and outplacement services.

The company also says it will close its call center inside the Peck Building in Lewiston next year.

According to Hannah, some of the 130 people who work at the call center will start working from home, while others are expected to take similar jobs with the company in Portland.

There are 3,500 year-round L.L. Bean employees in Maine, with 2,000 of them working in Freeport.
