PORTLAND, Maine (AP)   A lawsuit in Maine says an 11-year-old boy with mental illness at a juvenile detention center was beaten by corrections officers and denied medical care.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Maine filed a lawsuit Wednesday in federal court against the state Department of Corrections, medical care provider Correct Care Solutions and Long Creek Youth Development Center officials.

The lawsuit says cameras were recording when two officers bashed the boy’s face into a metal bedframe in 2017. The lawsuit says the boy didn’t receive dental care for his knocked-out teeth and was also denied ADHD medication.

The boy’s mother seeks legal fees, unspecified punitive damages and a court order barring defendants from further civil rights violations and excessive force.

Department of Corrections and Correct Care Solutions representatives didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
