Lengthy standoff in North Berwick ends with arrest of man and his mother

A standoff in North Berwick Tuesday night ended peacefully with the arrest of a Maine man and his mother.

Police say multiple shots were fired at them when they were called to a home on Shana Lane around 10 a.m. Tuesday for a report of someone violating a protection from harassment order.

Police spent about six hours negotiating with 23-year-old Adian Scott and his mother, Churi, with police eventually using gas canisters to get the two to come out.

Scott was arrested and charged with violation of a protection order, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and creating a police standoff, while his mother is charged with creating a police standoff and hindering apprehension or prosecution.
