AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage is warning Democratic Gov.-elect Janet Mills that she’d better be fiscally responsible when it comes to expanding Medicaid.
If not, he’s vowing to return from Florida to run again for governor in 2022.
LePage, who leaves office in January, made the remarks on WVOM-FM this week, saying he’s leaving the state in good fiscal shape as he prepares to head south to Florida. He suggested he’d return to Maine to fix things if Mills lets spending get out of control.
It’s unclear if LePage was serious about returning to run for office.
He previously said that he planned to teach in Florida, where he has a home. He’s also kept the door open to returning to the private sector.
