Less snow from last winter is hurting the snowmobiling industry in Maine.

The university of Maine released an updated report on the economic contribution of the sport in the state.

The report found that the business generated $582 million last year which is a drop of about $130 million dollars from the previous year.

Many businesses who rely on the industry such as repair shops, equipment retailers, and those in the hospitality industry have taken a hit because of the downturn. Especially in rural areas.

CBS 13 reports that during strong winter seasons the snowmobile industry can bring in upwards to $700 million to the state.
