Lewiston man charged with manslaughter for death of 4-year-old stepson

The stepfather of a 4-year-old boy who was fatally shot in Lewiston last month is charged with manslaughter.

The child, Jasper Smith, was shot in an apartment on Pierce Street back on May 17 and died in the hospital.

On Wednesday, police arrested the child’s stepfather, 35-year-old Robert McCoy, who was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The child’s mother, 27-year-old Mikayla Smith, was also arrested on unrelated warrants.

The pair were taken to Androscoggin County Jail.
