Lewiston man charged with murder after 5-hour standoff with police

The Lewiston Police Department arrested a Lewiston man for murder Saturday night after a five-hour standoff with police on Sabattus street.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Jerry Thibodeau, 36, is allegedly connected with the death of Anthony Ayotte, 40, who Thibodeau had dropped off at a Lewiston hospital Friday. Ayotte later died at the hospital, though the type of injuries he died from have not been disclosed at this time.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Thibideau and located him at his home on Sabattus street at around 5 p.m. Saturday. According to Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss, Thibodeau resisted arrest and tactical and crisis negotiation teams had to be called in to assist in the situation.

Thibodeau was taken into custody around 10 p.m.
