LEWISTON, Maine (AP) A Maine man working on his vehicle died of the injuries he suffered when a spark ignited gasoline and engulfed him in flames.

Authorities say 57-year-old Gary Labonte, of Lewiston, was draining the gas from the vehicle outside his apartment on Saturday so he could replace the fuel pump.

Authorities say an electric spark from the pump he was using to drain the tank caused the gasoline to explode.

Neighbors came to Labonte’s aid. He was first taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston before being transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he later died.
