Lewiston Public Works employees help man who lost arm in apparent workplace accident

LEWISTON, Maine (WGAN) Police in Lewiston say a man who lost his arm in what appears to be a workplace accident was likely saved by two Public Works employees.

According to the Sun Journal, the young man was seen stumbling along Maple St. carrying his severed arm just after 9 a.m. Friday.

Public Works crews who happened to be nearby sanding sidewalks were able to apply a tourniquet and call 911. Lewiston police Lt. Derek St. Laurent says they likely saved the man’s life.

He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center for surgery. Police had not yet identified him as of Friday afternoon.

Police had received multiple reports that the man lost his arm in an accident with a band saw at AK Market on Park St.

An investigation by OSHA got underway, while police were still trying to identify the business owner on Friday.
