Boil water order lifted after Lewiston water main break repaired

City of Lewiston

A boil water order in Lewiston was lifted Monday afternoon after a large water main break reported on Sunday.

Photos released by the city of Lewiston showed extensive flooding in some areas with thigh-high water levels.

Water was shut off from Webster to Sabattus on Orange and at Diamond Court.

In an update Monday afternoon, the city said the water main had been repaired and the boil order was lifted.

Testing found that the water is safe to drink, but residents were asked to run cold water for five minutes to help flush the system.

Schools in Lewiston were closed Monday as a result of the water main break.
