LEWISTON, Maine (WGAN) A Lewiston woman has filed a lawsuit against her neighbor and his landlord after she was mauled by his dog.

71-year-old Connie Veilleux said she was attacked by the dog while raking leaves in her yard in April of 2020. She’s undergone multiple surgeries since then.

The Sun Journal reports her neighbor David Davis was facing charges, including keeping a dangerous dog, but they were dropped by prosecutors. That would allow her to collect all the money available instead of having a portion of it go to the state in fines.

The suit also claims the landlord failed to maintain a fence on the property, which is how the dog was able to get into Veilleux’s yard.
