Litchfield (WGME) – A quiet neighborhood in Litchfield was shaken last week after police discovered 90-year-old resident Gerald Marin dead inside his home.

Family members called the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office to request a welfare check on Marin on May 18th. Upon arrival at the Hallowell Road residence, deputies found Marin deceased. The Maine State Police were called in to investigate.

The investigation continued through the weekend, leaving neighbors in the dark. “A friend told me something was happening,” said Carl Pinkham, a resident nearby. “Nobody knew what was going on. The road was blocked off, so we couldn’t even get down there.”

An autopsy later confirmed Marin’s death as a homicide. News of the murder shocked the community, with Pinkham describing Marin as a skilled craftsman. “He was a real talent,” Pinkham said. “Everything he built, he put his mark on it – a penny hidden in the back. It was his way of signing his work.”

Authorities have arrested 55-year-old Shari Allimah of Lewiston in connection with Marin’s murder. Allimah was already incarcerated at the Androscoggin County Jail on unrelated charges. She has been transferred to the Kennebec County Jail to face the murder charge.
