Alison Beyea of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine joined the WGAN Morning News on Wednesday to discuss the sexual assault controversy at Cape Elizabeth High School.

The school handed down a three-day suspension to Aela Mansmann after she posted a note in a bathroom saying “there’s a rapist in the school.”

Beyea said the school violated Mansmann’s First Amendment rights.

She said the ACLU asked the court to stay the suspension until they have time to understand the issues at stake.

The school agreed to put the suspension on hold until the judge can make a final determination.
