Maine AG investigating after man shot by officer in Waterville

Police say a Hartland man was fatally shot by an officer in Waterville during an armed confrontation.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office said Friday they’re investigating the shooting, which happened at the Best Western on Thursday night.

They said officers responded to the parking lot around 11:30 p.m., following reports of a man, later identified as 32-year-old Eric Porter, who was armed with a knife and threatening people. Police say he charged at a police cruiser, then ran onto the interstate. After refusing to surrender, an armed confrontation followed, resulting in Porter being fatally shot.

26-year-old Paul Heath with the Waterville Police Department was placed on administrative leave and the attorney general’s office is investigating, which is standard for all police-involved shootings.
