Maine’s Attorney General says a police shooting that left a Presque Isle man dead was justified.
25-year-old Jacob Poitraw was shot and killed by an officer after he allegedly threatened two people with an AR-15 during a road rage incident in June of 2022.
According to CBS 13 news, Sgt. Tyler Cote tried to pull Poitraw over the day after the road rage incident, and ended up fatally shooting him following a pursuit. Police said Poitraw rammed Sgt. Cotes’s cruiser multiple times during the chase.
Attorney General Aaron Frey concluded that it was reasonable to believe Poitraw could have seriously hurt or killed someone, and that he was known to have an AR-15.
Poitraw’s mother told the Bangor Daily News he had begged for help to deal with ongoing mental health issues.
