AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine’s attorney general is adding the Pine Tree State to a group of 18 states that’s calling on the Federal Trade Commission to protect workers from labor practices it sees as anticompetitive.

Attorney General Aaron Frey says the group wants the FTC to spur collaboration between regulators to stem practices that “depress wages, limit job mobility, and limit opportunities for advancement.” Frey says regulators should crack down on practices such as non-compete and “no poach” contract agreements, which limit workers’ ability to move from job to job.

Frey says the FTC should ban such practices for low-wage workers. He says the FTC should also take a close look at how corporate mergers impact members of the workforce.

Other states in the group include Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
