Maine Capitol Introduce Bomb Sniffing Dog, A Retriever

Image of Teddy from Maine Capitol Police

Maine Capitol Police have a new recruit in the form of a bomb-sniffing dog named Teddy.

Officers held a press conference for Teddy Thursday, who is a 17-month-old lab trained through the Maine State Police K-9 Unit.

He’s certified through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, and will be used for safety, security, and preparedness at the State House complex.

Police will use him to conduct daily sweeps. Capitol Police Teddy is fully operational, but as a young pup, he is still developing and refining his skills.

He was originally named Jeter after former New York Yankees player Derek Jeter, but was renamed Teddy by Capitol Police, in honor Red Sox legend Ted Williams.
