PORTLAND, Maine (AP) The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention says it has issued a citation of imminent health hazard to a Millinocket inn that was the site of a wedding associated with a coronavirus outbreak.
There are now 32 cases associated with a wedding ceremony and reception that took place August 7th in and around the Millinocket area. Of those, 26 are confirmed cases and 6 are probable.
Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah broke down what’s known about that outbreak so far. He says the wedding ceremony took place at the Tri-Town Baptist Church in East Millinocket. There were about 65 guests at the wedding and reception.
So far, 87% of those who tested positive are symptomatic. He says that tends to be the case in outbreak investigations, with individuals who are sick typically getting tested first.
Shah says the Big Moose Inn, where the reception was held, was issued an imminent health hazard citation for exceeding the state-mandated limit of 50 people for indoor gatherings.
The citation does not carry an immediate fine, but a fine could result if the inn does not comply with the investigation.
That outbreak investigation is still ongoing.
