The Maine Center for Disease Control confirmed 65 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, raising the total number of cases in the state to 698.
The number of current active coronavirus cases as of Monday was 406.
Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah says cases at longterm care facilities make up a large part of that spike. 48 of the new cases have been reported at such facilities, including the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation, where 55 cases have been confirmed; 41 residents and 14 staff members.
Shah says they’re also tracking outbreaks at the Tall Pines Retirement and Healthcare Community in Belfast, where 19 residents and four staffers tested positive. Another outbreak has been reported at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, where six staffers and 26 residents tested positive. Shah says most of the people who tested positive at that facility are asymptomatic.
The state says 124 of those who tested positive have been hospitalized at some point. As of Monday, 61 were hospitalized, with 22 in intensive care units and 9 on ventilators.
Health officials reported two deaths related to COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the total to 19. No new deaths have been reported since then.
124 individuals have been hospitalized at some point as of Monday, while 273 of the 698 people who tested positive have recovered.
The number of cases in Cumberland County was 299 on Monday. There were 151 in York County and Penobscot County had 34. The Maine CDC has reported confirmed community transmission in all three of those counties. Piscataquis remains the only county still reporting zero cases.
