AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine health officials say 28 residents have died from the flu this season, following four deaths last week.

The Sun-Journal reports the Maine Center for Disease Control released the flu report Wednesday. According to the agency, there have been 2,307 influenza cases in the state this year. There haven’t been any pediatric influenza deaths.

University of New England’s Clinical Affairs vice president Dr. Dora Anne Mills says Maine hasn’t seen an outbreak as severe as the rest of the country. However, Mills warns that the spread is “heating up.”

Public health experts say people should wash their hands often to avoid contacting or spreading the flu. Experts say people experiencing symptoms should contact a doctor.
