Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah says the state continues making progress in bringing down the positivity rate, which measures the percentage of coronavirus tests that come back positive out of all tests being done. As of Monday, the one-day positivity rate for PCR tests was 0.73%. That brought the 7-day weighted average to 0.74%.
The chart below reflects all testing that had been done as of Monday. Molecular testing reveals whether or not a patient currently has coronavirus. Antibody tests can determine whether or not they’ve already had it and have recovered.
In June, Maine’s CDC began releasing data which breaks down case counts by ZIP code. The information reveals total number of cumulative cases to date, and suppresses data in ZIP codes where there have been 5 or fewer cases and ZIP codes where there are fewer than 50 people. It also excludes Washington and Piscataquis counties, in an effort to protect patient privacy.
The Maine CDC has issued a standing order, which can be found on their website and printed out. The order allows any Mainer who is considered to be at an elevated risk of exposure to Covid-19 to receive a test even if they were not ordered to get one by a primary care provider.
The Maine CDC also released the graphs below, which illustrate the 14-day trend of metrics such as hospitalizations and new cases. That time window is what public health officials are looking at as they make recommendations for when certain businesses and services in the state can begin opening up safely.
