Maine CDC reports 70th death, 45 new coronavirus cases as recoveries top 1,000

AUGUSTA (WGME) — Coronavirus cases continue to increase and Maine has seen the 70th death as the number of people recovered now totals more than 1,000.

The Maine Centers for Disease Control released its Saturday update around noon. The latest death was a Cumberland County man in his 90s.

Total cases are now 1,648, with 1,477 confirmed cases and 171 probable cases.

The number of Mainers who have recovered from COVID-19 are now 1,012, an increase of 19 as the state plans to triple its testing capacity next week.

Mainers hospitalized by coronavirus edged up 2 to 37, while three more patients are in critical care (19) and two more are on ventilators (10) than reported on Friday.

The new of people hospitalized since the virus came to Maine is now 214.

Cumberland County experienced 23 new cases and continues to lead all counties with 821 total cases.

York (288) and Androscoggin (120) counties each saw seven new cases.
