FALMOUTH, Maine (WGAN) This Wednesday through Saturday, Falmouth Country Club is hosting a celebrity golf tournament.
This event, “Drive Fore Kids,” is being held to help raise money for The Barabara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
There will be 30-plus celebrities involved in this event this week. This includes past Red Sox’s players Derek Lowe, Kevin Millar, Clay Buchholz, and Tim Wakefield. Many other celebrities traveled to Maine to take part in the event as well.
One of those celebrities is actor and race car driver Patrick Dempsey. Dempsey is best known for his role as Dr. Derek “McDreamy” on ABC’s show Grey’s Anatomy.
Dempsey was born in Lewiston, Maine. He says he’s grateful for the opportunity to come back to his roots and give back to the community.
Dempsey spoke to WGAN and told us about his thoughts on “Drive Fore Kids” and what this event means to him.
“It’s great to get the awareness out here and give back to our communities, especially people who have been given a lot,” Dempsey said. “It’s really important to give back. Our purpose in life is to do something positive and good.”
Being from Maine, Dempsey travels home and helps with the community yearly. In 2009, Patrick Dempsey founded The Dempsey Center. This program helps to fundraise for Cancer patients and caregivers.
The biggest event associated with the Dempsey Center is The Dempsey Challenge, a walk/run/bike event that helps fundraise for cancer patients. This event has helped raise 18 million dollars for the Dempsey Center.
Dempsey says he is excited to be at the Drive Fore Kids event with all the celebrities and stars and cannot wait to meet them. Dempsey invites everyone to come out and watch!
