Maine convicted of killing girlfriend near Acadia National Park appeals sentence


A Maine man who was convicted in the killing of his girlfriend near Acadia National Park is appealing his 48-year prison sentence.

Raymond Lester was found guilty in the killing of his girlfriend, 35-year-old Nicole Mokeme, in June of 2022. Mokeme was leading a retreat at the time.

Witnesses said Lester was drunk and acting combative. Police said he intentionally drove his SUV off the road and onto a walking path, killing Mokeme.

Lester’s appeal was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Bangor.
