Maine coronavirus cases rise to 633, CDC officials say

The Maine Center for Disease Control on Sunday confirmed 17 new cases of COVID-19, raising the total number of cases in the state to 633.

No new deaths were announced on Easter Sunday. Health officials reported two deaths related to COVID-19 on Saturday.

CDC spokesman Robert Long said the latest deaths involved a man in his 80s from York County and a man in his 70s from Cumberland County. Those cases brought the state’s coronavirus-related death toll to 19.

Sunday’s total number of cases was up from 616 on Saturday. In all, 47 cases were reported over the weekend.

The number of cases in Cumberland County was 292 on Sunday. There were 144 in York County and Penobscot County had 34. The Maine CDC has reported confirmed community transmission in all three of those counties.

Health officials on Sunday said 120 individuals have been hospitalized at some point, while 266 people have recovered.
