Dairy production has been temporarily shut down at Smiling Hill Farm.

On Tuesday, a lightning strike knocked out equipment that monitors pasteurization. The Portland Press Herald reports the equipment may be offline for up to a week, potentially causing the farm to dump thousands of gallons of milk.

Cheese and milk production has been put on pause since the lightning strike occurred Tuesday.

The ice cream shop and barnyard at the Westbrook farm are still open for normal operation.
