AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Some leadership positions in the Maine Legislature have been shaken up due to the decision by a state senator to relinquish a top post.

The Maine Senate Democratic Caucus on Monday elected Sen. Eloise Vitelli of Arrowsic as Senate majority leader and Sen. Mattie Daughtry of Brunswick as assistant Senate majority leader.

Democrats say the changes were made necessary by the decision of Sen. Nate Libby to relinquish his position as Senate majority leader because of professional and family commitments.

The Senate president remains Sen. Troy Jackson of Allagash.
